The Birmingham News, 16 April 1936, page 21, column 3:

“BLACK – John Olen Black, age 41, 901 4th St., Pratt City, passed away Wednesday morning at local infirmary.  Funeral services Friday, 2 p.m. from Pratt City Methodist Church.  Internment Midway Cemetery.  Brown-Service, Ensley, formerly Echols & Angwin directing.  Surviving are the widow, one son, Navolis; mother, Mrs. M. A. Black; two brothers, W. W. and H. M. Black, four sisters, Mrs. H. H. Black, of Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. T. S. Johnson, Mrs. B. W. Glasgow and Mrs. E. L. Godfrey.”
