The Birmingham News 2/7/1940 the following obituary was recorded:
Brakefield, William David, age 72, Leeds, AL, Rt 1, passed away at the 
residence Monday p.m.. Survived by the widow Mrs. Mary A. Brakefield, 2 sisters 
Mrs. Emma King, Mrs. Annie King, 2 brothers, Ben and Felix Brakefield.
Funeral Services from First Baptist Church, Leeds, AL, Wednesday 2 p.m..
Rev. T. L. Collins officiating, Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery, Brown Service 
Norwood, directing.

Additional Comments:
His parents were David N. Brakefield b.1846, Fayette Co., TN, d. 1923 Ouachita 
Parish, LA and Harriet Pauline Pledger Brakefield b. 1849 Shelby Co., AL, d. 
bet. 1887-1900 AR or LA. He was predeceased by his 1st wife, Margaret Matilda 
Pledger Brakefield b.1867 Monroe Co., AR, died 1929 Jeff. Co., AL and she is 
buried in the Pelham Cem., Shelby Co., AL. His brothers, Ben and Felix were 
living in Louisiana at the time of his death,His sister, Emma King was living 
in Jeff. Co., AL and his sister, Annie King was living in Michigan.
