HOLLAND, 4915 Fifth Avenue, North was killed instantly, and A.C. WRIGHT, 3921, Seventh Avenue, North, was probably fatally injured at 6:30 AM when the automobile in which they were riding struck a East Lake street car on the First Avenue viaduct. Pitched from the automobile by the force of the impact, HOLLAND was thrown against the curbing, the skidding automobile a few seconds later striking his body and grinding his head against the cement pavement. The accident occurred when the light automobile, driven by Wright, in attempting to pass a string of automobiles on the viaduct faced the street car coming head on. WRIGHT attempted to cut in between the automobiles and the street car. It was said that the body of the car hit the front of the street car. HOLLAND was pitched out of the automobile, the car skidd, made slippery and dangerous by a drizzling rain... HOLLAND recently moved to Birmingham from Ensley. He was employed at the Sloss Company Bye Products plant, but had been employed by the Birmingham Rail and Locomotive Company lately....both were going to work when the accident occurred. WRIGHT had picked up HOLLAND at his home and was driving him to his place of employment. Additional Comments: John Edward was the son of John Edward and Mary Ann HOLLAND. He was born in Mobile County, Alabama. His parents came here from England abt. 1870. His wifes name was Maggie Belle (STRICKLAND). He had nine children.
