"The Birmingham News" (on microfilm), dated 29 October 1912. Joseph Elder. Joseph Elder, aged 68(?) years, died Monday night at a local infirmary. He is survived by his widow, a son, Roy Elder, of Montgomery, and a daughter, Mrs. Norman, of Lakeland, Fla. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from Shaw & Son's chapel, with the Masons in charge. Mr. Elder was a thirty-second degree Mason and a Knight Templar. He was originally from New York City, and at one time was superintendent of the Rock Island railroad. He lived at Columbus, Miss., before coming to Birmingham a short while ago. The Elder family came South on account of Mrs. Elder's health.
