Mrs. Alethea Wallace Porter

Funeral serves for Mrs. Alethea Wallace Porter, 79, 400 Morris Boulevard, who 
died Friday in a local hospital, were held Saturday at 2 PM at ALl Saint's 
Episcopal Church, Homewood, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.  Johns-Ridout 
directed.

A native of Birmingha, Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Florence State Teachers 
College.  She was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church and was a secretary 
and regent for General Pickett Chapter of DAR.

Serviving are a daughter, Mrs. Alfred W. Seier of Birmingham, two sons, Irvine 
C. Porter of Homewood and Capt. Neil C. Porter, USN, Retired, Newport, RI and 
three brothers, John H. Wallace, Jr. of Decatur, GA, C. Hunter Wallace of 
Pinton, and William O. Wallace of Birmingham.  She is also survived by 9 
grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Rev. Henry C. Borton officiated.  
Pallbearers were:  Claiborne Porter Seier, Alfred W. SEier, III, James W. 
Porter, II, Irvine C. Porter, III, Neil Claiborn Porter, Jr., Dr. Peter Rice, 
Roger E. McClain, and Sterrett C. Henderson.

Additional Comments:
Mary Alethea Wallace Porter was the daughter of John Henderson Wallace and his 
wife Cornelius "Neil" Robinson Wallace.  Alethea married Irvine Craig Porter, 
Sr. on June 22, 1903 in Birmingham.  They later divorced.  Irvine Craig Porter, 
Sr. was born on June 22, 1896 and died May 20, 1921.  Alethea never remarried.  
Another son of Alethea and Irvine C., James Wallace Porter, born Aug 14, 1914, 
disappeared in Puget Sound on November 11, 1946 and was never found.
