Tatum Additional Comments: The 104th Coast Artillery Battalion (Antiaircraft), Separate, was created by the conversion of three existing units of the Alabama National Guard and by the organization of three additional units. Battery A, formerly Headquarters Troop, 55th Cavalry Brigade, located in Birmingham, Alabama, was one of the oldest units in the Alabama National Guard, having been recognized as Headquarters Troop, 55th Cavalry Brigade, on April 15, 1933. The unit sailed aboard the Queen Mary from Boston, Massachusetts, to Sydney, Australia. The unit served in the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II from 1942-1945.
