Mr. COLLIER has seen life in its severest aspect, and unaided, an orphan and alone has taken front rank at the bar and today is full of that self reliance so necessary for success. Beside his place and character as a lawyer, he is a devout Christian gentleman, beloved and esteemed by all. It is thought by many of the leading politicians of the state that had he suffered his name placed before the last convention, he would have received the nomination over the brilliant McClellan. A law requiring under penalty all persons who have in their employ women and girls, to prepare a place for and allow them to sit down when not engaged in their duties is a good law, and many no doubt sill favor the provisions of the same being extended to men. --------- A MISTRIAL – A Sensational Development in the Famous Woolfolk Murder Trial HE LOVED A FAIR BICYCLIST A GEORGIA TRAGEDY – A Sensational Domestic Drama Enacted at Covington A REMARKABLE CASE – (Charleston, SC) GO WEST YOUNG MAN – and You will Return with a Vast Amount of Experience HAS THE BIG HEAD – A Boy with a Head THrity Inches in Circumference A DREADFUL ACCIDENT – Another Case of He Didn’t Know it was Loaded – Augusta, Ga BURNED HIM FOR FUN – Terre Haute, Ind. NOTES FROM TEXAS Ladonia, Tex., March 4 – I have just received a copy of excellent paper, and feel inclined to send a few items, which may be of interest to some of your many readers. While perusing its columns I find many familiar names, which bring fresh memories of the long ago. In 1868 I left Lamar County, Alabama and landed in Lamar County, Texas. At that time there was no railroad, our market was Jefferson, 110 miles distant, as we thought it a small matter to load our wagons for a fourteen day trip. Time has brought many changes, a few hours at present is sufficient to make the same journey. We can safely say that the ---- man’s day is gone, twenty years --- with grass plentiful and ------ he had many changes to one at present, with grass gone and I might say land too, as prices of good land range from $25 to $60 per acre. Land that sells for less than $25 per acre is worthless. The poor and the rich are to be found in Texas as in the older states, one landlord and a number of renters. -----TORN-------- ------- THE MUSICALE The Bradley Musical Club will give a public Concert in Vernon Tuesday evening, March 26th, 1889. The proceeds will be donated to the Methodist Church. It is useless to say that under the management of Dr. BRADLEY the public may confidently expect a rare musical treat. Let “everybody” turn out. ---------- NOTICE TO NON-RESIDENT AND UNKNOWN TAX-PAYERS The State of Alabama, Lamar County To Whom It may Concern: Take notice that the Tax-Collector has filed in my office a list of delinquent tax-payers and real estate upon which taxes are due: and therein is reported assessed to owner unknown, and to the persons hereafter named who reside out of this county, the following real estate to wit: (Names include: JOHN N.
