Vernon Courier, May 31, 1889 - pg 1

Riel Harper, who lived some six miles north of Gordo, died very suddenly on 
Saturday last.  On Sunday while a number of his children and grand-children 
were at the house of mourning the sorrow of the occasion was made doubly sad by 
the drowning of one of the deceased’s grand children.  It seems that the little 
fellow was playing about the springs near by when by some means he lost his 
balance, fell into the spring, and was drowned before assistance could be had. –
