This file is copyrighted and contributed by: Darlene ( Campbell ) Scott ==================================================================== May 2002 The Florence Times Date December 16, 1941 Death Notice Father And Daughter Lost In Florence Tragedy Joint funeral services for Rufus Edgar Roden, aged 61 and his daughter, Miss Hazel Roden, aged 26, who lost their lives when their home, 705 S. Ironside street, Florence was completely destroyed by fire Monday morning at 1:45 o'clock; were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Chaple in Brown Services funeral home, Florence, conducted by C. O. Burns, Church Of Christ evangelist. Mr. Roden was burned to death in the fire and Miss Roden, in a critically burned condition, jumped from a second floor window. She was carried to Coffee Memorial hospital where she remained intil her death. Survivors are the wife and mother, Mrs. Mary Grips Roden, who escaped uninjured; and a son and brother, Albert Roden, who escaped the tragedy with only minor injuries. Interment, for Mr. Roden followed in Oakwood cemetery; Sheffield, while Miss Roden was buried in the Florence cemetery. Note: The person who did this story must have been in a hurry because part of he information was left out.
