Lee County AlArchives Cemeteries.....Mechanicsville Cemetery - Complete Survey ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Smith November 29, 2007, 10:53 pm Abstracted By: Mary Smith To reach the cemetery, find US 431/280 between the cities of Opelika and Phenix City in West Central Alabama. At a stoplight in Smith's, by the Lee County Flea Market, cemetery searchers want to take Lee County Road 379. The cemetery is located in Mechanicsville, Alabama, off Lee County Road 379, on Lee County Road 344 (AKA the Old West Point Road) on the left hand side of the road. While volunteers keep the cemetery mowed and trimmed, it has been consistently vandalized for years and most of the stones are broken or missing entirely. Many groups and individuals have tried to replace damaged stones, but the exact locations of many graves are in question. It should be the resting place of between 150 to 175 souls.
