We, the undersigned State Board of Examiners hereby certify that we have examined the within application, and recommend that said applicant be placed in class 4 under the act of February 10th, 1899(?). This the 12 day of Aug. 1909 (Note: Unable to read signatures) (First Document) Application for the Relief of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors The State of Alabama Lee County To the Honorable Board of Pension Examiners for said County: Your petitioner, W. S. Adams respectfully represents to your honorable board that he is a resident citizen of Lee County, in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in the said State on the first day of January in the year 1899: That he enlisted in the service of the State, or Confederate States as a Private in company C in the 45th Ala Regiment, on the (no date) day of April 1862 at Auburn in the State of Alabama: That he was honorably discharged from such service on the (no date) day of July 1865: That he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama: That he was wounded at the battle of (left blank) in the State of (left blank): That he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of physical disabilities: That he is at the time of filing this application 69 years of age, and that his post office address is Opelika R.F.D. #5, Alabama: That he does not own property either in his own name, nor that of his wife, to, the value of four hundred ($400) dollars; that his annual income does not exceed four hundred ($400) dollars; and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls, in the class that your Honorable Board may adjudge him to belong, that he may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by act of the General Assembly approved February 10, 1899. Adams, who being by me first duly sworn deposes and says that he is now on the pension roll of Lee County, in the Third Class: that he hereby makes application under an Act approved April 24th 1911, to be placed on the pension roll of the second class on account of his age, being at the time of making this application over the age of seventy years, further states that he was born at Columbus, Ga. that he depends solely upon his pension for support and maintenance; that he is unable to procure any other positive proof as to his age as there is no one in this part of the country can testify as to his birth.
