B, 8th Confederate Cavalry (15 June 1896) Soldiers or Sailors Application – for the relief of needy Confederate soldiers and sailors, residents of Alabama, who from wounds or other cause, are now unable to earn a livelihood by labor, under act approved February 13, 1891 (HB 969), and amended February 18, 1895 (S.B. 825) State of Alabama, County of Chambers Before me, Lloyd Robertson, Judge of Probate, in and for said County, in said State, personally appeared W. T. Blasingame, who being duly sworn, deposes and says: That, while in the military or naval service of this State or Confederate States, he was a private in company B of 8th Regiment of Confederate Cavalry and that he did not desert the service of this State or Confederate States. That while in the discharge of his duties as such, on the (left blank) day of August 1863 at Dalton, in the State of Georgia, he was shot in the thigh and in consequence of such loss of limb, wound or wounds; sickness or old age; he is physically unable to earn a livelihood by labor: That he was, on the 13th day of February, 1891, and is now a resident of Alabama, and that his post office address is (left blank) That he is engaged in the business of farming. That his taxable property consists of no property, and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars: That his salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars per year; and that his wife does not own a separate estate of more than five hundred dollars: And he hereby makes application for relief under said Act. The State of Alabama, Lee County. To the Honorable Board of Pension Examiners for said County: Your petitioner, Wm. T. Blasengame, respectfully represents to your honorable board, that he is a resident citizen of Lee County, in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the first day of January in the year 1899; That he enlisted in the service of the State, or Confederate States, as a private in company B in the 8th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, on the (left blank) day of April 1862 at LaFayette in the State of Alabama; That he was honorably discharged from such service (left blank) day of May 1865; That he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama; that he was wounded at the battle of near Dalton in the State of Ga; That he is now unable to make a living by manuel labor on account of age and infirmities; That he is at the time of filing this application 68 years of age, and that his post office address is Opelika, Alabama; That he does not own property either in his own name, nor that of his wife, to the value of four hundred ($400) dollars; That his annual income does not exceed four hundred ($400) dollars; and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all the property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls, in the class that your honorable board may adjudge him to belong, ________ may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by act of the General Assembly approved February 10, 1899. Blasingame, who being by me first duly sworn deposes and says that he hereby makes application under an Act approved April 24th 1911, to be placed on the pension roll of the second class on account of his age, he being at the time of making this application over the age of seventy years, or have lost a leg, or foot, or arm, or hand, or the entire use thereof, further states that he was born at Troup County, Ga, that he depends solely upon his pension for support and maintenance; that he is unable to procure any other positive proof as to his age, as there is no one in this part of the country can testify as to his age. Blasingame, who died on Feby 14, 1913 and at the time of his death was on the pension roll of Lee County. Under Section 10 of an Act approved April 24th 1911. I respectfully ask that my name be placed on the pension roll of Lee County, and I further affirm that I have not remarried since the death of my husband, and that I married him prior to July 1st, 1900. T. Blasingame, who served in the Confederate Army as Soldier, being in the 8 Regiment of Company B (sic) that she was born at, or near, Georgia (sic), in the County of Henry, State of Georgia on the 14th day of December, 1838, being 76 years of age at the time of making this affidavit; that she is now on the pension roll of Lee County under number 36809. Affiant further states that she hereby makes application under an act approved March 8, 1915, to be placed on the reclassified pension roll. Mrs. W. T. Blasingame, Applicant for Reclassification State of Alabama, Lee County I hereby solemnly swear (or affirm) that I know the widow whose name is signed to the foregoing application for reclassification, and that I know of my own knowledge that she married her husband, on account of whose service in the Confederacy she draws a pension, prior to April 1865.
