Byrd who has been ill for about a month died Friday night at his home near Smith’s Station. He was taken ill about a month ago with typhoid fever. He was the baggage master on the Columbus and Rome Railroad and was well and favorably known here. He was formerly the agent of Smith’s Station on the Columbus and Western Railroad. Everyone who knew Mr. Byrd admired and loved him for his upright and manly character. He was a strict member of the Methodist church. He married Miss Emma Hurt daughter of Rev. C. S. Hurt, of the Crawford Ala. circuit who, with three children, survives him. The announcement of his death will be read with pain and sorrow by a host of friends in Columbus and vicinity.
