                OBITUARY
     DR. JOHN RICHARD DRAKE died at the residence of his father, DR. JOHN H. 
DRAKE, in Auburn, Ala., March 7th A.D. 1859. He was born in Nash County, N. 
C., March 22nd 1829.
     DR. DRAKE received his literary education at the well-known institution 
of PROF. LOVEJOY in Raleigh and at the University at Chapel Hill. His 
professional education was received at the University of Pennyslvania, at 
which institution he took his degree in Medicine April 1st 1854, receiving the 
unanimous vote of the Faculty, and a flattering professional notice from each.
