F. Fennell, for many years a resident of Butler, has passed on to the silent majority; one more veteran of “lost cause” has joined his comrades who preceded him to the better land, and there will be one less at the next gathering of hoary-headed heroes who meet annually to live over again those dark days of 1861-65. He was ready to go and the last few days of his life he repeatedly asked his Lord to take him home. For five years he suffered, the end coming Tuesday May 4th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lula L. Glaze at the Dalton home in Columbus. All that science and love could do for him was done, but 71 years of joy and sorrow had worn out the old body and with his children and grandchildren around him, he crossed over. He was a good man and loved by all. After he was stricken five years ago with paralysis his many friends did not forget to call on him and for all he had cheery words and wise counsel. B. F. Fennell was born in Lee County, Alabama in 1844; with his parents he moved to Taylor County in 1848. In 1861 he joined Findley’s artillery at Macon and served till the end of the war. In 1867 he was married to Miss Lizzie L. Hamilton who preceded him to the great beyond in 1913. To this union were born five children – Mrs. Lula L. Glaze, Mrs. Ida Morris, Mrs. Vishie Booth, Mrs. Lizzie Livingston and one son, Wm. F. Tennell, all of Columbus. A number of grandchildren in Columbus also mourn his loss. Mr. Fennel moved to Columbus from this place in 1884, where he was in business most of the time. Additional Comments: In the 1850 Census, Macon County, Georgia, Benjamin is living with his father, William H. N. Fennell and Elizabeth Fennell. Not sure if Elizabeth is Benjamin's mother because she is listed after Benjamin. Benjamin is with William in the 1860 Census, Taylor County, Georgia. Benjamin F. Fennell married Elizabeth Lavonia Hamilton on July 7, 1867 in Taylor County, Georgia. They had at least 6 children, with 5 surviing in the 1900 Census. They were Lula L. Fennell Glaze, b. 1870, William F., born 1872, Ada (Ida?), Fennell Morris, born 1874, LaVishie Ann Fennell Booth, born October 1876, and Martha, (Lizzie?, married Henry Livingston in 1897), born 1879.
