James and Frances were the parents of twelve children. Benjamin, Mary J., Jane, Frances, Sallie, and Emily are in the 1850 Census, Harris County, Georgia. The 1860 Census, Harris County, Georgia shows children Edna E., age 17 (I think this is actually Emily and the age is incorrect), Benjamin, age 16, Mary J., age 14, Nancy A., age 12 (I think this is Jane in the 1850 census), Frances A., age 10, William F., age 8, James T., age 6, Hattie J., age 5, and Marshall, age 2. By 1880 the family had moved to Lee County, Alabama and the following children were living with them: Benjamin, age 26, Frances A., age 20, William F., age 19, James T., age 17, Hattie J., age 14, Marshall, age 13, Sallie, age 10, and Andrew, age 7. It was not unusual for families to name younger children after siblings with the same name who had died earlier. A daughter Sallie was in the 1860 census, age 3, but she does not show up later. A subsequent daughter named Sallie was born in about 1870. It is likely she is named for that missing or deceased older sister. James's Death Certificate is in Alabama Death Certificates, Volume 12, roll 1, certificate #354 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/lee/photos/tombstones/mechanicsville/cummings1240nph.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/alfiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
