Her number on the pension roll was 38506. Witness from Macon County, Alabama was Mary Simmons. 24 January 1916 Additional Comments: The record for pension included many pages. From my own personal research Sarah Jane Simmons was married to William J. Yarbrough. Their families were living adjacent to each other on the 1850 census for Chambers County, Alabama in 19th District. Her brother, John W. Simmons moved with his family to Tallapoosa County, Alabama in about 1856. Sara Jane is listed as a sister of John W. Simmons in newspaper abstract from 1902, Opelika Post for the death of her brother, John W. Simmons. Sara and William were living in Tallapoosa in 1860. She and her husband were buried in Roxana Cemetery, Lee County, Alabama. John W. Simmons and his wife are also buried there. Her obituary in the Opelika Daily News April 15th 1927 indicates her name before marriage to W. J. Yarbrough was Sarah Jane Simmons. The date for marriage provided in the obituary in 1927 indicates the marriage was in 1852.
