It is located west of Highway 31 North in Athens, Alabama. The entrance is on Hobbs Street. There are gates to enter from Hobbs St. and from Washington St. It is bounded on the north by Hobbs St., the south by Washington St., and the east by Thomas St. The section first surveyed is the westernmost portion, entering from GATE 1 (off Washington St.), west of the cemetery road. This is one of the oldest sections and many of the older tombstones have engraving that is worn. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish between some numbers 1s and 4s often look alike 2s and 7s 5s & 6s, 3s and 8s, and 9s and 0s. Keep this in mind if you are researching your family and think a birth or death date is transcribed incorrectly.
