Although she had been in failing heath for several years and was confined to her room seven weeks, her death came as a shock to her many friends and relatives. She drank her morning coffee as usual then after a few sinking spells, like the ones she had for several years, she passed on. Mrs. Rogers belonged to the Church of Christ for many years, was truly a Christian woman, loved by all who knew her, and was ever ready to lend a helping hand whenever she could. Last rites were held Sunday at 2 p.m. by Bro. Irven Lee in the auditorium of Clements High School. Interment was in Poplar Creek cemetery, Spry directing. Survivors other than the husband John Rogers, are; one son, Willie, Athens route 2; seven daughters, Mesdames Joe Woodfin, Emmitt Black, and Alfred Garner of Athens route five, Brece Barley, Joe Rogers, Houston Young, and Billy Williamson of Athens route two; mother, Mrs D.W. Griggs, Athens route 2; seven sisters, Mesdames M.E. Woodfin, Harvest route 2, Price Young, Hazel Green route 1, Cleve Lovell and Dudley Claxton, Athens, C.E. Gordon, Athens Route 2, and Cal Stanford, Athens route 5; two brothers, Gilbert of Evansville, Ind., and Tommy Griggs of Huntsville; 23 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The sons-in-law of the deceased served as pallbearers and flower girls included Misses Lois Black, Christine and Jaunita Garner, Mary Pratt, Mabel Norton and Mrs. Mack Hogan.
