Rev. Robert Donnell
who was born April _ A.D. 1784
Departed this life at Athens, Ala. on thursday the 24th of May 1855
at 4:00 1/2 A.M. in his 72-year.

This is a tall monument in the Donnell family plot which is enclosed in an 
iron fence, west of Gate 1.  All 4 sides of the monument are engraved: the 
southside states: A native of Guilford Co. NC,of Scotch descent and 
Presbyterian education, emigrated to Wilson Co. Tenn in 1793 where he was 
converted in 1800 and joined the church.  In March 1810 at Ridge church he was 
received a candidate for the ministry by Cumberland Presbytery at the first 
meeting after its reorganization and was ordained by the same in Oct. 1811. On 
the eastside: His last testimony. Whether I live, I live unto the Lord. And 
whether I die, I die unto the Lord: whether I live therefore or die, I am the 
Lord's - Christian Patriot: Philanthropist: PRINCE of Preachers: Rest in 
peace. Northside: One of the compilers of the Confession of Faith and 
Discipline of the C.P. church, an enlightened exponent and an invincible 
defender of its doctrines. Self made, of gigantic mind and commanding person, 
Social in feelings, fervent in devotion, chaste in style, graceful in 
attitude, eloquent in manner, logical in reasoning, convincing in argument, 
urbane in deportment, uniform in piety, consecrated to his calling. "His 
praise is in all the churches."
