He was a planter, and man of excellent intellect and sound judgment. He served the county as a legislator, and in the constitutional convention of 1861. Entering the service of his country as captain of a company in the 14th Alabama regiment, he was killed, close to the enemy’s breastworks, in a last victorious charge at Frazier’s Farm. He was in command of the regiment at the time, Lieut. Col. Bain, Major Wood, and three captains having already fallen. His widow and children reside in the county, where he has numerous relatives. Additional Comments: James Spullock Williamson married Eugenia Carolina Read on May 12, 1852 in Lowndes County, Alabama. They had at least three children: 1. A. Fort Williamson, born about 1853, married Mattie E. Brooks on December 21, 1876; had at least one daughter, Mary Read Williamson who married William Glenn “Will” Forehand. 2. Hugh Read Williamson, born December 3, 1857, died October 6, 1918, married Susan Lee Robertson on May 9, 1880 in Lowndes County, Alabama; had at least nine children: James S Williamson; Sarah Jane Robertson; John Robertson Williamson; Eugenia Read Williamson; Susan B. Williamson; Hugh H. Williamson; Nathan Hubert Williamson; Charles Joseph Williamson; and Mary E. Williamson. 3. Mary E. Williamson, m. Charles E. Brooks on April 18, 1886 in Lowndes County, Alabama; no known children.
