Calvert ================================================================================ August 2002 On 13 July 1859, George W. McQueen and James D. McQueen filed for probate the Will of John McQueen, Jr., and the Court set 27 July 1859 a hearing, as required by law, for ten-day notice to the next of kin of the decedent, residing in Alabama, to-wit: Mary A. McQueen, widow of the decedent, Elizabeth Susan Coleman, wife of Stephen W. Coleman, Mary Frances Smith, and Martha Catherine McQueen and James Daniel McQueen, over the age of 21; and Benjamin F. McQueen, Julia Anne McQueen, Rebecca Dorobske McQueen, and John Pleasant McQueen, minors, all of whom were advised that they might appear in the Probate Court in Hayneville on 27 July 1859 and contest the admission of the Will to probate if they considered it proper. The Court also appointed Jameson Keister, Esq., Guardian ad Litem for the minors. From Lowndes County Estate case files: George W. McQueen and James D. McQueen, executors of the Will of John McQueen, Jr., paid Witcher & Keister $1500 on 27 February 1860 for probate of the Will. Named in the file are: Joseph A., Pleasant, Robert, and James D. McQueen (guardian of John Pleasant McQueen).
