Wilcox Progressive Era, Thursday, September 10, 1908
Sheriff Hayne, of Lowndes county, was shot and instantly killed at Hayneville 

on Saturday last by R. R. Broadnax, a prominent merchant. Broadnax was drinking 

heavily at the time.
