On 10 May 1888, a Notice appeared in the Montgomery Advertiser, page 7, which reads: "Death of Mr. M. C.[C. R.] Venable" "On Sunday last Mr. Clem Venable died at his home in Lowndes county. He was a son-in-law of the late Mr. A. G. McGehee, having married his only daughter.1 For several years he resided in Florida, but his health gave way and a year or more ago he came back to the old home, and after months of suffering gently passed away. He was a gentleman of fine intelligence and excellent qualities, and all who ever knew him will hear with regret of his death. In this city there are many hearts that sympathize deeply with his wife and children in their great bereavement." 1 Actually she was his only surviving child. Her siblings all died young, according to his Bible record.
