I also received a copy of the same obit from John M. Magee, adescendant: "From unknown paper with unknown date. I found it glued to the back of a picture of a family. I don't know who they are, but I can sumise that the old lady in the picture is Mary Ann. From tombstone information I know that she was born 3 DEC 1830 in Conecuh Co., AL and she died 29 JAN 1911, probably in Limestone Co., TX. She is buried at Eutaw Cemetery outside of Kosse in Limestone Co., TX." "Our community was greatly shocked early Sunday morning, January 29, by the death of Mrs. Mary A. Adams, commonly known as grandma Adams though she had been quite sick for more than two weeks and her recovery was doubtful, yet the end came unexpectedly, but so peacefully that she seemed only to sleep. In the passing way of this good woman the community sustains a personal loss. We have known her thirty-seven years and can say that all the qualities of a good wife, fond mother, loyal friend and zealous christian were hers. Duty seemed to be her watch-word to home, church and neighbors. She was unwavering in what she considered right in spiritual and temoral things. Hers was the old time hospitality of a true Southern lady (note that Souther is capitalized but christian isn't!!!) and yet in all so unassuming these qualitites and her unselfish spirit, as the years passed, stamped on her coutenance a serene dignity, which only a long and useful life can give. She, Mary Ann Hawkins, was born in Conecuh county, AL, 30 DEC 1830, and was married to Jno Z. Adams in 1847, joined the Mt. Willing Baptist Church in 1864 and came to TX in 1872. She was the mother of thirteen children, five boys and eight girls. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. A.J. Sowders, her beloved pastor, at the Eutaw Cemetery, where she was laid to rest by her husband and three children, surrounded by a large number of sorrowing friends and grief- stricken children and grandchildren. All her children being present except a son and a daughter. To those who mourn her we woule say: "let not your hearts be troubled, she has entered into her inheritance." -- A Friend."
