Holcomb, p. 114. Martha C. Smith McGehee's obituary notice in the 30 September 1870 Southern Christian Advocate says: "Martha C. McGehee, widow of Abraham McGehee, Esq., died at the residence of Joseph B. Mason, Lowndes County, Alabama, 7 July 1870, in her 80th year. Her maiden name was Smith. She was a native of Granville [Greensville] County, Virginia. Her family moved to Alabama in 1833."1
