The Hayneville Citizen-Examiner December 9, 1891 GARRETT-FREEMAN WEDDING Last evening the culminating point in the happiness of MR. C. W. Garrett and Miss Eva Freeman was reached in the blending of their lives into one. The stars that shone in the heavenly firmament and looked like so many sparkling jewels there prophesied only joy and bliss to the happy pair whom God had bound together. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Upton at the Episcopal Church at 7:30 P.M. The attendants were: Mr. Ed Naftel and Miss Annie Meriwether; Mr. W. C. Coker and Miss Emma Jackson; Mr. E. H. Pritchett and Miss Irene Belgart; Dr. L. B. Bouchelle and Miss Kate Mushat; Mr. L. L. C. Haigler and Miss Mary Brightman; Mr. J. W. Salley and Miss Sallie Murray; Mr. E. S. Garrett and Miss Birdie Sheppard; Mr. R. J. Carr and Miss Lucy Pritchett; Mr. Will Jackson and Miss Mary O'Connor, Messrs. D. K. Middleton and L. R. Brightman were ushers. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. Paul Freeman of Birmingham. The bride dressed in white silk was a dream of loveliness and beauty which some Moore or Coleridge had given a local habitation. This beauty, this whiteness merely shadowed the soul within as pure as "chaste in the un-sunned snow." A lovelier flower was never kissed by a sunbeam in the garden of Shenstone or Blennerhasset than this human flower that became a bride just last night. Miss Freeman, now Mrs. Garrett, was the only daughter of Major George C. Freeman who was once the superintendent of education in Lowndes County and was elected to congress just after the war, but for political reasons was not allowed to take his seat. Her mother, Mrs. Cox, still resides in Hayneville. The groom is the only son of Mr. W. J. Garrett, one of Lowndes County's most prosperous farmers. The groom himself has been quite successful in his calling. After the ceremony Mr. And Mrs. Garrett repaired to the residence of Mr. John H. Holcomb where willing hearts and hands had prepared a rich spread for them. Supper over, all proceeded to the court house where music and dancing made the flight of time unnoticed till the sinking stars said to eyes not yet weary that the music must hush and dancing cease. The Citizen-Examiner involves the blessings of all the Gods upon the lives of the newly married pair.
