His brother, Henry Peter Grant, was a witness to this will as was McDaniel Atchison/Atchinson who was married to Jane Grant, William's sister. John J. McCaw was court clerk whose daughter, Celia Jane, married William Grant, Jr., Catherine and William Grant's son. It is all in the family!! Catherine W. Ferris, daughter of Joseph Ferris and Sarah Delashmen/Delashment, was born December 11, 1799 and died September 23, 1856. She is buried in a cemetery in Lowndesboro, Lowndes Co., AL whose name I do not know. Also buried in this cemetery is Sarah Delashment/Delashment Ferris, born about 1774, died Sept. 27, 1860. I do not know the relationship to Elijah Delashment. Catherine's brother, Mordicai D. Ferris is buried there as well. He was born Aug. 22, 1810 and died Apr. 28, 1857. Other family members are in this cemetery as well. Will of Catherine Grant Lowndes County, Alabama Will Book B, pages 344 – 345 The State of Alabama } Katherine Grant, wife of William Grant, Lowndes County } Senr. of Lowndes County and State of Alabama, being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this life and being instilled in my own right to a certain portion or share of the estate of one Elijah Delashment, and which said will bears date the twenty first day of June eighteen hundred and fifty one, said estate being now in the hands of William B. Jones and Hugh W. Keown (hard to read) of Gibson County, Tennessee, executors to said will of said Hugh Delashement, ___ I the aforesaid Catherine Grant, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament that is to say: First: I give and bequeath unto my beloved husband William Grant all my share of the estate of the aforesaid Elijah Delashment to which I am entitled by the said last will and testament of the said Elijah Delashment, to have and to hold and to be used by him as his own, for and during his natural lifetime or during the time he may remain a widower after my decease. Second: In the event that the said William Grant shall, after my decease, intermarry with a second wife, or in case of the death of the said William Grant, I ordain that all of the said estate in the residue and remainder of said estate and all the proceeds of said estate should there be any, of what ever kind or nature it may bb, shall be equally divided, share and share alike, among my different children or legates, as follows: to my son Joseph Grant, to my daughter Catherine McDaniel, to my son John Grant, to my son William Grant, to my daughter Elizabeth Grant, and to my daughter Jane Davis, and also to my daughters Sarah Salley and Lucretia McDaniel, and of any of the above named legates be dead at that time, leaving children, their own offspring behind them, then those children shall be entitled to and receive their father or mother's share, which he or she would have been entitled to had they been living – and I do hereby make, ordain, and appoint my husband, William Grant, the sole executor of this my last will and testament. Grant, subscribed their names as witnesses thereto in the presence of said Catherine Grant and in the presence of each other – and further that at the time of signing said paper, said Catherine Grant was of sound disposing mind and memory.
