After the payment of my just debts, which are few and of small amounts, I will require and direct the following distribution and final investment of the whole of my property real and personal. To my son, Robert P. Lide: I give and bequeath in addition to those already given him, the negroes Charles and his wife, Sopha and all their children now in his possession an hire (?) as part of my support so to remain during my lifetime, the Negro girl Time (?) having been given to the wife of the said Robert P. some years past. Also all my lands in the state of Alabama, Dallas County, Center Ridge, consisting of two hundred acres, part of which at the request of this said Robert P. has been sold and titles made to Mr. James Calhoun, tho said lands and the interest to help pay land rent on the part sold unless reinvested in other lands for the use of the estate during the minority of Hugh L. Charles to remain for the benefit of Edgar W., Andrew B, Hugh L. and Mary A. Charles until the said Hugh L. arrives at the age of twenty one years, after which Times aforesaid, the said negro and the said lands and the proceeds of that which has been sold to be fully vested in the said Robert P. has been and assigned forever. To my son Evan J. Lide, I give the Negroes Sal, Sambo, Sally, Caroline, Chloe, and her child Meilo, and to my son Thomas P., I give the Negroes Sawney, Eliza and child Nancy, Rose and child Patrick, in addition to those I had before given them to remain with them or him for my benefit during my lifetime. Also, I give and bequeath to them jointly all my lands in the District of Darlington in addition to the lands already given them, excepting the tract on which I now reside and excepting a piece of land lying between the road leading from Darlington Village to Society Hill, which makes its eastern and western boundaries, and on all other sides bounded on the lands of Moss William Cannon, being on the eastern side of Black Creek, the lands here bequeathed are mostly included in two tracts surveyed on the 8th of June and granted to me on the first of July, 1822 in order to cover a number of small tracts I had purchased. But, there is a part of a tract of 337 acres which I purchased of Samuel Rowell, supposed to be about 150 acres, the other part now owned by George Blanwat (?) included in the aforesaid grant, which is included in the bequest as also all the sawable timber of all the lands formerly owned by William Thomas in this vicinity, and conveyed to me by Deed on Record which the said timber lands were in the occupancy of Jacob Abbott and before he had either bought or sold any part of it in this bequest is also included the sawable timber on 100 acres of said timber land sold by Abbott to Jones and by Jones to Bozeman Peter and supposed to be now owned by the estate of Alexander Fountain ____ near Hads Ray to them the said Even J. and Thomas P., their heirs and assign forever. To my son-in-law, Edgar W. Charles, I give the piece of land herein before mentioned lying between the road leading from Darlington Courthouse to Society Hill and Black Creek, which makes its eastern and western boundaries, and on all other parts, it is bounded by lands of Moss William Cannon. Also four head of Milch Cows, making with their calves eight head, and also four head of stock Hogs, to him the said Edgar W. Charles, his heirs and assign forever. To my sons Robert P., Evan J., and Thomas P Lide, I give and bequeath the tract of land on which I now live, consisting of two hundred and twelve acres, more or less, with all its appurtenances. Also, all the Negroes I now own, or hereafter may own in the state of South Carolina, excepting those herein before bequeathed. Also, all my household and kitchen furniture, my stock of all kinds, excepting those here before bequeathed, plantation tools, books & C, in trust for the use benefit and support of my daughter Margaret Jane F. Dargan, her husband John A. B. Dargan and their children during the lives of the said Margaret and the said John, and at their demise to be fully and entirely vested in the children of the said Margret and John, the survivor or survivors of them, their heirs and assign forever. To my grandchildren, Andrew B., Hugh L., and Mary Ann Charles, I give and bequeath all the Negroes, excepting those herein before bequeathed to Robert P. Lide, I now own or hereinafter may own in the state of Alabama and also the use and profits of my lands there during the minority of my aforesaid grandson Hugh L. Charles, all now under the management of my said son, Robert P. Also, all my lands in the District of Marion, SC, near the vicinity of Charles Reaves North of Little Pee Dee River, being on _____ part of a tract granted to Robert Lide, my father, and to Robert Hodges, jointly, for two thousand acres supposed by some to contain at least four thousand acres. The net proceeds of all the property just named and devised, to be applied to the maintenance and education of my aforesaid grandchildren and to the maintenance of their father, Edgar W. Charles, during his lifetime and on the arrival of the said Hugh Lide Charles at the age of twenty one years, the right and titles to said Negroes and lands to be fully vested in my grandchildren aforesaid, subject only to the support of their father, to them the survivor or survivors of them, their heirs and assign forever. My three sons aforesaid, whom I have herein before appointed Trustees and my tow sons-in-law herein before named, I do hereby nominate and appoint Executors to this my last will and testament. Charles and made oath that he was present and did see Hugh Lide sign the within Instrument of writing as and for his last will and testament and that he was at this same time of a sound disposing mind and memory as teis deponent doth believe, and that Peter A.
