Givhan Lowndes County, Alabama Will Book B, pages 5 - 6 In the Name of God, Amen. I, Job P. Givhan of the Parish of St. George, Dorchester Colleton district and State of South Carolina Planter being of sound memory thanks be to God for the same do make, publish, and declare this to be my last will and Testament. First: I recommend my soul to him who gave it in hope of a joyous resurrection through the merits of my redeemer. And as to such worldly goods as my heavenly Father hath been pleased through his divine providence to bestow upon me, it is my will and desire that it should be disposed of as follows, that is to say it is my will and desire that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be paid by my Executor hereafter named. Item: I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife, Jemima, my horse called Temeachus and my riding chase and also four cows and calves and two sows and pigs. And her equal part of all my household and kitchen furniture with all my children. And all my part of that plantation or track of land containing about thirteen hundred acres, more or less, known by the name of the Cykes place which is belonging between myself and my brother, Jacob Givhan, and which we both hae an equal share in and it is further my wish and desire that my wife, Jemima Givhan, should have all my part of said plantation during her natural lifetime and no longer. And at her decease the said plantation to be equally divided between my surviving children or their lawful heirs this together with what I have already given her by deed and otherwise is given by me to her in consideration for and in lieu of her dower. Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved children, to wit. Mary G. Appleby and my son George Givhan and my son Phillip Givhan and Jacob Givhan and John Givhan and my daughters Eliza Givhan, Jane Givhan and Susan Givhan, an equal share of my household and kitchen furniture with my wife, Jemima Givhan. And it is further my wish and desire that my above named eight children shall have, enjoy and possess the whole of the balance of my estate, both real and personal, not otherwise disposed of which I give unto them and their heirs forever but subject to the following restrictions, that is to say should either or any above named eight children depart this life leaving no lawful ____ then and in that case the children first so doing and leaving no lawful ____ that be equally divided among my surviving children or their heirs that may be then living. And it is further my wish and desire that my family do remain where I now live until the first of January... And I wish the Ferry and plantation to be hired out and I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my son-in-law Richard Appleby and son George Givhan and my son Phillip Givhan to be Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all and every other will at any heretofore by me made and declared this to be my last will and testament this 8th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four Patrick Canady Job P.
