I, Richard Lowndes County } Buffington of the County of Lowndes and State of Alabama, being mindful of my mortality, do this seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven, make this my last will and testament in manner following: First: I desire that all my just debts and final expenses be paid. Secondly: I give and bequeath to my wife, Sarah Buffington, all my personal and perishable property, household and kitchen furniture of every description, provisions, corn and fodder, horses, cattle and hogs for her support during her natural life, except a horse hereinafter named and also my desire ____ is that my wife Sarah Buffington give to our ___ at or before her death in manner which is most agreeable to her all my personal and perishable property of every description then belonging to my estate. Also I give to my wife during her natural life the north west quarter of section two, Township Twelve of Range Thirteen, with the right to sell ___ or any part of said lands if it should be necessary for her support. Also, six acres in the extreme South West corner of section thirty five, Township Thirteen of Range Thirteen. 3rd: I give to my son, George J. Buffington, one ___ and at the death of my wife, I also give to him the north west quarter of section two, Township Twelve, Range Thirteen and six acres in the extreme South West corner of Section thirty five, Township Thirteen of Range Thirteen, or so much of the aforesaid lands as may remain unsold at the death of my wife. 4th: My will and desire is that upon the condition that my son, Ethan A. Buffington, pay my wife four hundred and sixty dollars within the time which may be agreed upon between my wife and my son, E. A. Buffington, then and in that event my executors are hereby instructed to convey in due _____ of law to the said Ethan A. Buffington the west half of north east quarter of section two, Township twelve, Range thirteen. But, should the said E. A. Buffington fail to make payment as above stated then my executors are instructed to refund to him all that he my have paid of the purchase money and sell or dispose of said land for use and benefit of my wife and her family. 5th: My desire further is that my son, George J. Buffington, and my daughter, Emma E. Buffington, so long as they remain members of my family secure board without charge. 6th: I hereby constitute and appoint my sons (?) D. Buffington and George J. Buffington my executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written. Cook, Judge of Probate of said county, David Lee, one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Richard Buffington, lat of said county, dec'd, and being sworn stated that said Richard Buffington voluntarily executed the same as his last will and testament in his presence and the presence of the other subscribing witness on the day the same bears date and at the time of executing the same he was of sound and disposing mind and memory. That the said David Lee and the other subscribing witness, Reason Hobby, subscribed their names as witnesses to the last will and testament in the presence of the testator and in the presence of each other, all on the day the same bears date.
