She is buried in the Myrtlewood Cemetery, Fort Deposit, Lowndes Co., AL next to her husband, Nehamiah Hutchinson Chestnut(t). Caroline was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Butts and Mary Bowen Dennis. Caroline and Nehamiah's children were: Jefferson Butts Chestnutt, John Henry Chestnutt, James Constantine Chestnutt, Jacob Thomas Chestnutt, Edwin Bowen Chestnutt, George Curtis Chestnutt, N. Francis Chestnutt, Samuel J. Chestnutt, Alice Caroline Chestnutt, Joseph Hollingsworth Chestnutt, and Josephine Dennis Chestnutt. Joseph and Josephine were twins. Will of Caroline F. Chestnutt Lowndes County, Alabama Will Book C, page 271 State of Alabama, Lowndes County. I, Caroline F. Chestnutt of Lowndes County, Alabama, realizing the uncertainty of life and being of sound mind and memory and judgement, do make and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following, to-wit: I give, devise and bequeath to my two daughters, Alice C. Chestnutt and Josephine H. Chestnutt, all of my property both real and personal, to have and to hold unto my said daughters, their heirs and assigns forever. Avinger, who being first sworn deposes and says that he is a subscribing witness to the instrument of writing now shown to him, which purports to be the last will and testament of the said Mrs. Caroline F. Chestnutt, dec'd, late and inhabitant of this county, that said Caroline F. Chestnutt signed and executed said instrument and ... the same to ... last will and testament on the day the same bears date, in the presence of said affiant and Alex Stewart who signed the same as a witness thereto, in the presence and at the request of said testator, that said testator was of sound and disposing memory and fully capable of making her last will and testament at said time, and was of the full age of twenty-one years and upward.
