Their children were: Dixon Hall Lewis, b. August 10, 1802, d. October 25, 1848, m. Susan Elizabeth Elmore; Henry Dudley Lewis, b. October 10, 1806, death date unknown; Rebecca Ann Lewis, b. May 1, 1810, death date unknown; Edward B. Lewis, b. April 30, 1812, d. February 14, 1850, wife's initial's were S. E.; James Lewis, b. about 1814, death date unknown; Hamlin Freeman Lewis, b. June 5, 1816, d. November 30, 1852 in Walker Co., TX, m. Mary Martin Elmore, sister of Susan Elizabeth Elmore Lewis (wife of Dixon Hall Lewis); Caroline Eliza Lewis, b. May 2, 1818, d. December 23, 1893, m. Hartwell V. Smith; William Francis Lewis, b. between 1820 - 1822, death date unknown; Mary Dixon Lewis, b. about 1824, death date unknown, m. 1st John Bushrod Lamkin, m. 2nd Mr. Witter. Above information added by Carolyn Golowka State of Alabama Lowndes County In the Name of God, Amen! That I, Mary d. Lewis of said County and State, of lawful age and of sound mind and disposing memory, do make, ordain and publish this my last will and testament as to certain property hereinafter mentioned and bequeathed. 1st: I hereby appoint, nominate and authorize my daughter, Mary D. Witter, after my death, to pay all my just debts from any property of my Estate and to execute and carry out my grants and bequeaths hereinafter mentioned. 2nd: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Mary D. Witter, my tract of land lying near the Alabama River in Mid County and State and known by numbers as the Southeast quarter of section twenty-seven, township sixteen, range fifteen, containing one hundred and sixty acres, more or less, to her sole and separate use forever. 3rd: In consideration of the love and affection I have and cherish for my two grandchildren, Fannie L. and Mary S. Lamkin, having had them with (me) most of their lives, I give, grant and bequeath after my death to said Fannie and Mary, my tract of land known as the McQueen place lying and situated in township fifteen of range fifteen, in said State and County, containing four hundred and eighty three acres, more or less, jointly, each to share alike and to their sole and separate use during their natural lives, and at their death, to their lineal descendents or offspring, but at the death of either of them in case there should be offspring, the children of deceased shall take the share only of deceased parent and if either of them should die without children, the one surviving shall be entitled and share of the deceased upon the same terms and conditions of the original bequest herein given. 4th: And I further given and bequeath to Fannie L. Lamkin one-half dozen of my parlor chairs, one bed and mattress and piano give her several years ago for her sole and separate use. 5th: And I further give and bequeath to Mary S. Lamkin one-half dozen of my parlor chairs, one bed and mattress and my center table for her sole and separate benefit and use. 6th: I further direct that my said grandchildren, Fannie L. and Mary S. Lamkin shall give and pay each twenty-five dollars annually to their aunt Sidney Lamkin from and out of proceeds and profits of the land herein bequested to them the said Fannie and Mary. Lewis, deceased. Before me, J. V. McDuffie, Judge of the said Court, personally appeared, in open Court, Mrs. Mary Z. Lamkin, who having been by me first duly sworn and examined, did and doees depose and say that herself and one Shemei Gresham are the subscribing witnesses to the instrument of writing now shown to her, and attached hereto, and to which purports to be the last will and testament of Mary D. Lewis, dec'd, late an inhabitant of this County; that said Mary Lewis, since deceased, signed and executed said instrument on the day the same bears date, in the presence of said witnesses, and declared the same to be her last will and testament, and affiant set her signature thereto, so did the other witness above named, on the same day the same bears date as subscribing witnesses to the same, at request of testatrix, in her presence and in the presence of each other, that said testatrix was of sound mind and disposing memory and, in the opinion of deponent, fully capable of making her Will at the time the same was so made as aforesaid. Affiant further states that said testatrix was on the day of the date of said will of the full age of twenty-one years and upwards. Sworn to and subscribed before me Mary Z.
