William May and Elizabeth "Betsy" Browning May. He was born in 1821 in Montgomery County (part became Lowndes County in 1830) and died Aft. June 27, 1862 near Richmond, VA. He was married, from the will, but her maiden name or the location of the marriage is unknown as is if there were any children. Family Legend says he was buried in the family plot in the Mt. Gilead Church, but it is more likely he was buried near the battlefield where he died. If, however, she should not, only one-half to her, my wife, and the other half to be equally divided between my surviving brothers and one niece, namely: my brothers John Browning May, William Smith May, David Francis May, and lastly my niece, Nancy Cornelia Haralson. Having thus made known my desire and wish in the above instrument of writing, witness this my signature on the 5th day of April, in the year of your Lord, One thousand Eighteen hundred and Sixty-two (1862).
