I have added information in brackets [ ] which are NOT in the will. This will is apparently a copy of the original page in the will book, typewritten with several punctuation and spelling errors. State of Alabama Lowndes County Know all men by these presents; to-wit* That I, Mary Belle Varner, being of sound mind and realizing my condition and the uncertainty of life, and without any influence from others, I do hereby make this my last will, for the love and affection I have for my beloved husband, Charley Allen Varner, after my death, I desire that my said husband shall…shall…all of my earthly possession including real estate and personal property, that I no[w] have or may hereafter come into my possession of up till the time of my death. To have and to hold to the said Charley Allen Varner his heirs and assigns forever. And I do hereby give, devise, transfer and set over to the said Charley Allen Varner all of real and personal property that I may have at the time of my death, to have and to hold to the said Charley Allen Varner his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof, I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 28th day of June, 1898. Witness: Mary B. Varner (L S) A. J. Varner, B. M. V. Thomas. State of Alabama Lowndes County I, W. C. Croly, Justice of the Peace in and for said County, hereby certify that t Mrs. A. J. Varner and Miss M. V. Thomas, subscribing witnesses to the foregoing conveyance, known to me, appeared before [me] this day and being sworn stated that Mrs. Mary B. Varner the grantor, voluntarily executed the same in the ipresencence [sic], that each of them attested the same in the presence of the grantor and in the presence of each other on the day the same bears date. Given under my hand this the 27, day of July, 1898. W. C. Croly, Justice of the Peace The State of Alabama Lowndes In the Matter of the Probate of the Last Will and Testament of Mary B. Varner, dec’d. Before me, A. E. Caffey, Judge of Probate Court in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared in open Court, A. J/ [sic] Varner, who having been by me first duly sworn and examined did, and does depose and say that she and M. V. Thomas are subscribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing now shown to the said affiant and which purports to be the last will and testament of Mary B. Varner, deceased, late an inhabitant of this County, that the said Mary B. Varner, since deceased, signed and executed said instrument on the day the same bears date as a subscribing witness to the same in the presence of said testatrix and at her request and in the presence of each other, and that said testatrix was of sound mind and disposing memory and understanding and in the opinion of affiant, fully capable of making her said will at the time the same was so made as aforesaid, and deponent further states that said testatrix was on the day of the date of said will of the full age of twenty-one years and upwards, and a resident of the County.. Caffee [Caffey] Judge of Probate Additional Comments: Mary Belle Dickerson, daughter of Columbus C. & Sally H. Dickerson, was born August 5, 1876 and died July 19, 1898. She married Charles Allen Varner,II, son of Charles Allen & Amelia Jane Thomas Varner, on February 27, 1895 in Lowndes County, Alabama. Mary gave birth to Charles Allen Varner, III, on July 8, 1898. He died on July 13, 1898, a day before his mother. Both are buried in the Steep Creek Cemetery, Lowndes County as is Charles Allen Varner, II.
