W. and J. A. WISE, merchants, Madison, Ala., sons of Samuel and Sarah A. (Line) Wise, who came with them from Virginia to this place in the fall of 1872. The senior Wise died on his farm near Madison, in 1876. He reared seven sons to manhood, and two of them, John M. and William, served through the late war in the 1st Virginia Cavalry, under Fitz Hugh Lee. They now reside in Kansas. Of the others, Samuel is in Iowa, Henry A. in Virginia. David L. died in 1862. The only daughter is in Virginia. G. W. Wise was born in Virginia, Nov. 20, 1854, there grew to manhood, and followed farming a number of years. In 1882 he began the life of a merchant at Madison, in the firm of Wise, Hertzler & Co. In January, 1887, that firm was dissolved, and the present one of G. W. & J. A. Wise was organized. They deal in general merchandise and trade in cotton. Wise Bros. & Harper is a firm including G. W. and J. A. Wise and B. F. Harper, who is a clerk in the store of the Wise Bros. G. W. Wise is a steward in the Methodist Episcopal church. J. A. Wise was born in Virginia, on the 2d day of August, 1860, and was married, Feb. 28, 1884, to Miss Lucy Harris, of this State. Her father, Thomas Harris, received a wound at the battle of Manassas, from which he afterwards died. Dr. A. S. Harris, of Madison, her grandfather, was a Virginian. J. A.
