No 376 State of Louisiana
Parish of East Baton Rouge
Before me Charles Tessier Parish Judge & ex officio Notary public in and for 
the Parish of East Baton Rouge personally appeared Benjamin Brownin of Madison 
County (Alabama) who declares that for and in consideration of the sum of Five 
Hundred dollars which he acknowledges & have received in Cash, he has granted 
bargained sold & delivered & by these presents does fully grant bargain sell 
deliver & convey unto Mrs. Edith Devall accepting & acknowledges possession by 
her agent John Buhler here also present & undersigned.  A certain Negro man 
Slave named Zack and aged of about thirty five years warranted clear of 
encumbrances and free from any of the ? ? and ? prescribed by law.  Which 
slave ? appearer acquired by purchase of Isaac T Brownin as it appears from 
order of sale passed in my office (see Book L, p. 285, No. 308)
To have and to hold the above named Slave unto the said Edith Devall her heirs 
& assignsfor ever.  And the said seller for himself and his heirs, the said 
slave to the said purchaser her heirs & assigns shall and will warrant for 
ever defend against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever by their 
presents.
Persons? Came and appeared At Baton Rouge in presence of Messrs Stephen ? and 
Lewis Sheppers  -  witnessed who signed hereto their names & each together 
with the said parties this eleventh day of January one thousand eight hundred 
twenty six.
