His family lived in Morgan Co. He ran a farm on this side of the Tennessee rive. He has a wife and nine children. He had removed all his household and kitchen furniture and five children to this side of the river, and left them in the care of Miss Caroline Waters. Last Sunday night, before midnight, Miss Waters was awakened by fire falling from the roof on her bed. She jumped up and, like a true, heroic woman, hustled the children out of the window and, then, got out herself, with scorched clothing, took the children to the river, bailed out a bateau, and carried them across to their parents, in Morgan county.—Everything in the house— the family clothing, household and kitchen furniture, and 1800 pounds of cotton— was burnt, leaving nothing but the clothing the family had on. Mr. McCutcheon and family are worthy people in distress, and need, and are entitled to the sympathy and pecuniary aid of the public. We trust they will receive liberal aid from the citizens of Huntsville and Madison county.
