R. Moore has been in our city several days. Mrs. Irvine White and her children went to New York last week. Mr. Murray French, of St. Louis is visiting his sister, Mrs. James Mayhew. Wm. H. Robinson and J. E. Brown, Esqs. of Scottsboro were in our city yesterday. Charley Schlack, formerly of Huntsville, now of Washington City, got here yesterday. Miss Katie Ashford, after three months’ absence in Jackson, Miss., and New Orleans, returned here last week. Miss Bettie Brinkley, of Memphis, after spending a few days here, went home last week. Mrs. Malone Jewett, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Joseph Cooper, returned to Macon, Ga. last week. Mr. Bolling Hubard, of Va. a guest of Capt. Milton Humes, reached here last week, on a visit to his charming little daughter, Felicia Hubard. Rev. Mr. Wallace, U. S. Navy Chaplain, preached in the Church of the Nativity last Sunday. He expects to be here for a week or two. Mrs. Sue Johnson and her amiable and beautiful daughter, Miss Belle Johnson, went to Florida about two weeks ago, with a view of residing there. Mr. Robert Morrow, who has purchased the Jas. B. Robinson place left for his old home near Pittsburg, Pa., last week expecting to return, with his family, by Feb’y 1, 1884. Mrs. S. L. Creswell gave her many friends an agreeable surprise by her arrival here last week. She expects to return to her new home, Harpersville, Shelby Co., Ala., this week. Mrs. S. R. Cruse and her sons Sam and Percy went back to Memphis last Wednesday, accompanied by her brother, Mr. Otis Newman on his way to Hot Springs, Ark., where we hear he is a popular druggist. Col. Gabriel Jordan, Vice President and Gen’l Manager of the M. & O. R. R., arrived here yesterday morning and left for Mobile on the one o’clock train, accompanied by Mrs. J. W. Clay and Miss Mary Clay, who go to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays in Mobile.
