His elder brother, Samuel Cruse, living at Memphis, Tenn., was notified of his death, and went to Grand Junction to meet his brother’s corpse and attend it to Huntsville for burial in the family plot in our City cemetery. About three miles east of Grand Junction, the train encountered a broke rail, and the ladies’ car and sleeper were thrown down a ten feet embankment. We believe no one in the ladies’ car was hurt. There were seven persons in the sleeper, among them Mr. Samuel Cruse and Mr. James B. White, of Huntsville, and his cousin, Miss Vernon. The sleeper caught fire and was burnt up. The doors being locked, the occupants narrowly escaped through the windows, with the loss of valises, hats, overcoats, &c. Mr. Sam Cruse was (we hear) the only one hurt, his right hand and wrist being severely cut, but not dangerously. Percy Cruse was a bright, jovial, genial boy. Our heart goes out in deepest sympathy for his widowed mother, only brother and other relations in their sad bereavement. Thrice, in about two years, has the Insatiate Reaper stricken this family. First, cutting down Mr. S. R. Cruse, the head of the house, then his eldest son, Frank, and now his youngest, Percy. May God comfort the mourners as He only can!
