C. DENTON – Madison Co., Ala. In memory of our beloved brother, I. C. Denton, Madison Co., Ala. Brother Denton was born in Sevier Co., Tenn., in 1861 and died Nov. 7, 1952, being 91 years old. He was united in marriage to Hetty P. Bird in 1884, and to this union were born seven children. His wife and four children preceded him in death. Brother Denton came to Alabama in 1884 and lived here until death. The surviving children are: Thomas Denton and Mrs. Luther E. [or C.] McCord, both of New Market, Ala.; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great- great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. M. C. Joiner, Harvey, Ill. Brother Denton united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Bethany in Madison County on the fourth Sunday in July 1897 and was baptized by the late Elder J. M. Bragg. In March 1907, he was ordained deacon and later chosen Church Clerk, which office he filled until death. He will be greatly missed by his brethren, children, and many friends, but let us say with one of old, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” He was a firm believer in the doctrine of God our Saviour and was loved far and near. His doctrinal and experimental talks were enjoyed by his brethren. May God bless and comfort the family and reconcile us with the thought that our loss is his eternal gain. Just before Brother Denton became unable to go, he told me that he had been a member of Bethany Church for 52 years and had missed only two meeting days. He passed away in New Market at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Luther C. McCord. – R. O.
