NEWSON DIED TUESDAY Well Known Business Man Passed Away from Effects Of Paralytic Stroke Amos W. Newson, for many years prominent in civic and business affairs in Hutsville, died at 2:30 a.m. this morning at his home on Locust St., from the effects of a stroke of paralysis which he sustained several days ago. It was made known to his family Saturday when he sustained a severe stroke that there was practically no hope for his survival - that his death could be a matter of only a few hours. This information became known among his hundreds of friends and they were grieved but not surprised to learn of his death during the early hours of the morning. Mr. Newson removed to Huntsville with his family about 25 years ago, coming from Nashville and making his home at "Oaklawn" magnificent ante-bellum residence on Meridianville pike and for a number of years operated the Oaklawn fruit nursery. He carried on an extensive business in this line several years and then branched out in the real estate business, developing numerous subdivisions around Huntsville that will remain as monuments to his foresight and enterprise. He was active in his two lines of business until nearly the end although, his health had been failing rapidly for sometime past. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ethel Stoner Newson, a son, Amos C. Newson of Charlotte, N. C., a daughter, Miss Myrtle Newson of Kansas City, Mo., a sister, Mrs. Grant of Columbia, Tenn., and three brothers, G. I., Jay and Frank Newson, all of Nashville. The funeral has been arranged for Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the residence on Locust street with Dr. John J. Milford of the First Baptist church conducting the service and with Poole-McCaleb in charge of arrangements. The members of the Masonic fraternity of which Mr. Newson was for many years a member, will be in charge of the service at Maple Hill cemetery and the following friends have been selected to act as pall bearers: Norris Payne, Tom Pettus, J. D. Thornton, R. P. Weden, R. A. Moore, W. T. Galloway, W. H. Wilson, and R. O. Mitchell.
