WILLIAM M. ROPER died at his residence in Madison Co., Ala., on Sunday, Dec. 2, 1883, aged over 80 years. Capt. Roper was one of the oldest residents and most esteemed citizens of this county. His moral and Christian character were above reproach. Humility, modesty and sterling integrity in sentiment and action were his characteristics, a legacy to his children and an example to the rising generation more precious than gold that perisheth. He was greatly afflicted for years, and bore his afflictions with Christian fortitude, died in peace with God and man, with a bright prospect of eternal bliss in Heaven.
