SCHAUDIES, a native of Russia in his 63d year. At the grave, Rev. J. A. B. Lovett, the officiating minister, made the following statement, which is true to the facts connected with the life of the deceased: FREDERICK OTTO SCHAUDIES was born in Russia, December 18, 1818. He came to this country in the year 1846, and settled in the town of McMinnville, Tennessee, on the 4th day of the same year. On May 10th following, he was united in marriage to Miss ANNA MARTENA WEBB, who survives him. He came to Huntsville January 1, 1848, where he has lived up to the time of his death, which occurred on Friday morning, 11th inst. Consequently, he was aged 62 years, 10 months, and 20 days. Brother Schaudies was a member of the Lutheran Church, and his life was consistent with the high profession of a true Evangelical faith; and, having the essential elements of industry, honesty and economy, his business line was one of marked success. With these high traits of character, he accumulated more than a competency. He has been a great sufferer for years; and, although his bodily afflictions were of a most painful character, they were borne with no ordinary degree of patience and Christian fortitude. During his last illness, the often expressed confidence in that Divine Power which had been his spiritual support during all the years of his religious life. I had the pleasure of being at his bedside during his last hours, and of talking with him concerning his hopes for the future. He gave unmistakable testimony as to a saving understanding and personal reception of the great principles of the Christian religion. While his physical nature was dissolving, the spiritual man, with the reason fully enthroned to the last, was cognizant of approaching death, and the soul’s flight to the God who gave it. Under these circumstances, he quietly passed away, leaving a devoted family and a great number of friends, who feel that a kind husband and father, and a noble, generous citizen “is joined to the most.” And now, bereaved companion, in the high sense of a Father’s care and protection, you are not, by this sad dispensation, left a widow, lone and desolate; for God has said that “He will be a husband to the widow.” And may the two surviving children feel a personal interest in that Divine utterance which declares that “God is a father to the fatherless.” Hellon Lodge of the Masonic Fraternity, of which Brother Schaudies was a worthy member, will, at the close of these religious services, bestow a fitting tribute to his memory and of their affection. The burial service was read, after which the choir, led by Mr. S. S. Darwin, sang “Father, we will rest in Thy love.” Prayer was offered by the officiating minister, followed by that touching song, “When our work is ended, we will sweetly res. &c.” In a most impressive manner, Dr. M. C. Baldridge, W. M., and P. D. G. M. Samuel Thompson conducted the ceremonies of the Masonic Fraternity, a goodly number of the Order participating. The solemn services were closed with prayer and benediction by Rev. Mr. Lovett.
