11 April 1840: "Another Revolutionary soldier gone.  Died at his
residence in Madison County, Ala. on the 18th ult. after a painful
illness of fourteen days Mr. JAMES TRIBBLE in the 84th year of his age.
He died greatly lamented by an affectionate wife and seven children and
a large number of grand and great-grandchildren; he was beloved and
respected by all who knew him as a gentleman and an honest man.  Mr. T.
was a native of Maryland; he moved to Virginia in 1766 where he lived
until 1785.  He then moved to Lancaster Dist., S.C. where he lived until
1819 when he moved to Alabama where he remained until his death.  He was
one of that gallant band who fought under General GREENE at the Battle
of Guilford and for several years past had drawn a small pension from
the government.  he had been a member of the Baptist Church for 46 years
in which he was a faithful member and died with full assurance of
meeting his God in peace....The paper printed in Lancaster Dist., S.C.
