D. W. Cobb were delightfully surprised at their home near Owens Cross Roads on Monday evening, December 30. The occasion celebrated their fifty-sixth (56) wedding anniversary. The couple presented a happy picture on Monday evening surrounded by friends and relatives. An enjoyable evening was spent and a delicious dinner served. The dining table held for its central adornment a huge white frosted wedding cake, which contained the usual symbols, govering [sic] the future of the guests. Miss Mildred Anders cut the straw, Miss Mattie Isbell the button, Thomas Soloman the dime, and Mrs. Walter Sebrine, the ring. Mrs. Cobb was formerly Mollie Bowers, was married December 30, 1863 to I. D. W. Cobb at a double wedding ceremony, the other couple being her sister, Mattie Bowers and J. W. Esslinger. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. J. C. Nunkapilia, a well known Methodist minister. Their family consists of Mrs. Sadie Brandon, Mrs. Lily Williams, Will Cobb, of Owens Cross Roads, Mrs. Hattie Brayelton, of Huntsville, Mrs. Edna Esslinger and Jim Cobb, of Gurley. On October 23, 1929, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Esslinger, of the same community celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cobb and Mr. and Mrs. Esslinger are members of the Chestnut Grove Methodist church, and were married in the same home near where they now live. Mrs. Lizzie Ellite was the only guest present on Monday evening who attended the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Cobb. All joined in wishing the highly esteemed couple many more happy anniversaries.
