Gossett ==================================================================== January 2002 Burnt House Cemetery, Marion County, Alabama Location: In Hackleburg, head south on Hwy. 253 for about two miles until you see a sign saying Burnt House Cemetery on the right side of the road. Turn right on the gravel road. Cemetery is on top of the hill on the right. Notes: Though it seems like a lot of unmarked graves, I may have counted several more than once, as they are covered with leaves in a wooded area, and lots of the unmarked graves are together, and it is hard to distinguish between headstones and footstones. Compared with the Cemetery Inscriptions Book by Stalcup, there are three graves that are not mentioned here: Father and Mother of James Newton Cochrum and C.M. Britnell. There were also new tombstones put up since the book was published; this certain cemetery was transcribed in 1979. Therefore, I have compared my notes with the Stalcup Book, as, over time, tombstones do become unreadable. Also, John Madison Frederick (8/3/1810 - 8/16/1889) is supposedly buried here.
