SPEAKE, Judge of the Circuit Court: We, the members of the grand jury for the Spring Term of said court, sk leave to submit this our final report. We have diligently inquired into all indictable offenses brought to our knowledge, committed or triable within the county, and only returned indictments in cases where the evidence was very strong. Have investigated thirty-four cases and returned twenty true bills. We are pleased to report that crime is decreasing in our county. We have made a personal inspection of the condition of the county jail, in regard to its sufficiently for the safe keeping of prisoners, etc. and find it reasonably safe and in good condition except one window and a hold in the middle wall and well and neatly kept. We have examined the condition of the county treasury and the treasurer’s books, also the books and papers of the county superintendent of education and find them correct. We have examined the records of the other county officers and find them in good condition. The official bonds are, we think, in proper form and sufficient, with the exception the tax collector and H. H. MNILLS, constable for RYE precinct, and recommend that additional security be required of these two officers. We thank your Honor and all other officers of the court for kindness shown and assistance given us this week. Respectfully G. W. Mr. BOTTMS is well known to the people of Marion county, having served six years as county superintendent of education, and if nominated and elected would doubtless do all in his power to carry out the wishes of the people. The gathering of the heroes of the confederacy is a historical event, the importance and significance of which we do not realize to its fullest extent. To most of us the Confederate solider is familiar; we have heard from his lips time and again the story of battle and march. But the scythe is ever working in his ranks, and not many years hence the last of him will have passed away. The youth and every young man who will witness the review should photograph its every detail upon their memories. Time will come when they will esteem it their highest privilege and honor to tell children and grandchildren about it. The Confederate veteran is an inceptive hero; he is greater today than ever, but who can fix the measure of his greatness a quarter of a century from now? – [Evening News] SHOT FOR A TURKEY On last Monday morning Mr. T. M. UPTAIN who resides about six miles west of here, was shot through the thigh by Mr. JOHN DICKINSON, who mistook him for a turkey. They were both out hunting and Mr. UPTAIN being behind a tree could not be seen from where Mr. DICKINSON stood, but wile fixing himself in a position to shoot he dropped his leg out from behind the tree. Mr. DICKINSON thinking this to be the turkey raised his gun and fired. The ball struck him on the upper part of the thigh crushing the bones. It is thought amputation will be necessary. Mr. DICKINSON is nearly crazed with grief, and he and the wounded man both have our sympathy. – [Winston Herald] -----(various political news and commentary)----- DISSOLUTION NOTICE The firm heretofore existing under the firm name of NORTHCUTT & CO., composed of the following persons; J.
