IT WAS DYNAMITE Fifty-five miles west of here on the Kansas City, Memphis, and Birmingham, parties who were standing at the station at Carbon Hill, only a few minutes after passenger train No. 4 which left here at 10:25 Sunday night, had passed heard a loud report of an explosion on the track. Employers of the company went at once to where the report was heard, and upon investigation found that an attempt with dynamite had been made to blow up the large iron bridge which spans Chickasaw Creek. The destructive stuff had been placed under one side of the abutment, and instead of wrecking the entire bridge, as was doubtless intended only resulted in the displacement of the abutment. This displacement caused the bridge end to drop down so that trains could not pass. Material was carried at once to this place and men put to work repairing the damaged parts. As it is the damage is considerable. – [Age Herald] Mr. Long publishes a card this week in which he alleges that the Jeffersonians had Capt. One Dollar a year LOCALS Born – to Mr. and Mrs. CASHION on last Sunday, a fine boy. Quite a crowd of the young folks attended church at Rocky Grove three miles west of town on last Sunday Mr. ----- COLBURN of New River was here on business the first of the week. Mr. JOHN BEASLEY of Pearce’s was in town this week. Mrs. CLEVELAND has been quite sick for the past few days, but is now improving. Mrs. E. FUNDERBURK, of Eastman, Miss. is visiting relatives in Hamilton. Mrs. HENDRICKS and Miss GEM FRAZAIER attended the quarterly meeting at Bexar on Sunday last. WALTER APPLING, a rising young lawyer of Jasper was in Hamilton one day this week. He thinks of locating here. Mr. APPLING is a young man of pleasant address and the people of Hamilton will extend to him a hearty welcome. The wheat crop in this section is excellent. It is now being harvested and Capt. HAMILTON’S new thresher is in full blast. MARVIN WHITE is visiting relatives at Guin. W. R. WHITE attended Quarterly Conference at Bexar last Saturday. Rev. P. K. BRINDLEY, presiding else, preached an interesting sermon here last Sunday night. Rev. Mr. DRISKILL, of Detroit, was in Hamilton Sunday night. W. C. DAVIS and A. J. STANFORD have been in Guin this week on professional business. W. B. RIGGAN made a business trip to Guin the first of the week. Mrs. EFFIE RIGGANS and her mother, Mrs. HAMILTON, returned Saturday from a week’s visit to relatives near Henson’s Springs. P. B. PETERMAN, the old and reliable watch maker, is now located at Guin. If you want good work give him a call. FROM DETROIT Mrs. MARTHA WEBB of Caledonia, Miss. is visiting relatives in this vicinity. The “political stink” that some of Bankhead’s envious opponents are trying to stir up on him does not seem to create much excitement among his many friends at this place. Borned (sic) unto Mr. and Mrs. J. A. DAVIDSON on the 9th inst. a 11 pound boy. You Hamiltonians tried to take our breath not long since by your big “litter” of girls but you will find by watching these columns that Detroit is not discouraged and hopes to soon regain her place as the leading baby- producing town of west Alabama. Dr. J. S. STANLEY was married last Wednesday morning at 7 o’clock to Mrs. FANNIE FEARINGTON at her home in Nesbit, Miss. there is a tinge of romance in this happy marriage; in their younger days they were engaged to be married but drifted apart and the Dr. has since been married twice and his bride once. They each have a daughter and two boys. They returned Thursday evening and it is with a feeling of pride that Detroit welcomes this fair and intelligent lady to a home among us. CLIP, June 11, 1894 Mr. Editor: Will you allow me space in your valuable paper to make a correction to a false report that is going the rounds. It is reported that I bought some whiskey from a man in this county and then reported him for selling it. In reply I will say that it is a positive lie manufactured by some one unknown to me. I have never bought any whiskey from the man and have never seen him with any for I am not looking after that branch of business. Thanks to the editor for space. Yours truly L. D.
