For Congress, Sixth District – JOHN H. BANKHEAD, of Fayette -------(political commentary)------- Hon. WALTER H. MATTHEWS, of Guin, will be a candidate for the position of enrolling clerk of the House at the next session of the General Assembly. With his experience of thirteen years in an official capacity and six years as Probate Judge of his county, Judge MATTHEWS is thoroughly fitted and qualified of the position he seeks. His record as a true and loyal democrat who has never failed to serve his party both in county and state unquestionably entitles him to the recognition of the democrats of the House and make him a strong candidate. If elected we hazard nothing in saying that he will discharge the duties of the position with credit to himself and the state. The howl about sugar does not amount to anything. It went up a few points when the new tariff bill was passed but supply and demand stepped in and sugar went down, and is today as cheap in the great markets of the world as it was before the McKinley law was repealed. DEMOCRATS OF MARION, Are you prepared to do your duty on November 6th? If so, are you going to perform that duty? The congressional election is close at hand. Only a few days and the struggle will be over. Either Capt. Bankhead or Capt. Long will be chosen to represent this district in the 54th Congress. Whom do you prefer? Do you want to see Bankhead, the enemy of force bills, robber tariffs, trust and combines, reelected. Or do you prefer Long, the force bill advocate, the friend of tariff robbers, a man who believes in a contracted currency and who was nominated by Revenue Commissioners and ----? If you are a democrat and believe in democratic principles you will surely prove your loyalty by going to the polls on election day and casting your ballot for John H. Bankhead, the democratic nominee. Don’t stay at home and think there will be enough without you. What we want is a rousing majority in Marion to overcome the enemy’s majority in our sister counties.
